| A mixture of punk rock and hardcore tendencies are the basis of the EMO subculture. The term "emocore" originates from emotional hard-core and is thought to have appeared the mid of the 80s.
Founders of this music style started to add melodic features to their tunes. Sadness, love, sense of loneliness are usual topics of their tunes. Hence, the emo style could be defined as rock music with emotional lyric features. However, the definition of the emo style is still under debate.
Although the emo subculture was originally considered a music genre, these days it is referred not only to music, but also to conduct, clothes, hair style and the way of life.
The emo style is thought to be unfashionable. This way emos demonstrate that they take no interest in all aspects of society. They wear skinny jeans, commonly in bright colors, and tight-fitting t-shirts, with names of emo groups printed on them. Common accessories in the emo fashion are studded belts and black wristbands. Piercing is also one of the ways of embellishing the body that is popular among emos. Black Converse sneakers are ordinarily worn by emos. Some boys also wear thick black horn-rimmed glasses.
The emo fashion is also recognized for its hairstyles. Popular looks are long side-swept bangs, ordinarily covering one or both eyes. Straightened and dyed black hair is also a part of the emo fashion. Blue, red, pink or bleached blond highlights are highly stylish. At the outset of the third millennium, the emo fashion was associated with an immaculate look, but as young people adhered to the style, it got darker, with long bangs and emphasis on the color black supplanting sweater vests.
Emos are exceedingly sensitive personalities. Psychologists consider them introverts who are reluctant to interact with the world around. Instead, they display their thoughts by means of poetry. Poems they write are full of sorrow, nostalgia and despair. Normally these emotions are typical of teens aged 12 - 18, when they are emotionally unstable. For most emo representatives emoism becomes a way of life. |
